This is a heavy tabletop radio set with design cues from the S-40 and S-38D - in fact, it looks rather like an extended 5R10. According to Chuck Dachis, it is the cased version of the 8R40C (a chassis built into a wooden console) and 'Run 1' featured selenium rectifiers. However, by 'Run 2' they had reverted to the traditional 5Y3 tube rectifier.
